FAQ - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What do I bring/Wear for my first hip hop class?
Make sure to have on a pair of comfortable shoes and clothes. Jeans, T-shirt, sweatpants, are all okay. I would not recommend dress pants or dress shirts. Have a change of clothes prepared if you are coming to the studio from an office environment that requires more formal attire.

What are the best kind of shoes for hip hop dancing?
Shoes that are lightweight and don't leave marks on the floor. Casual shoes like sneakers and canvas shoes work great. Dress shoes will be more difficult to dance in.

When can I start your program?
You can start at anytime. There are no sign-up dates. Just drop-in to get started. No prior dance experience is needed.

Can teens join your classes?
Teenagers who are Junior High and High School students may join our classes but they must have a parent or guardian sign our permission slip waiver. You can find both forms here: Page 1 l Page 2

How long does it take become a good dancer?
Difficult to answer. Everyone defines "good" differently. What does good mean to you?

- to be good dancer at the club?
- to be the best dancer among your friends?
- to be a good performer?
- to be a professional dancer?
- to be your personal best?

Only you can answer the above question but what I can tell you is the more consistently you come to class and the more your practice, the quicker you will learn.

I already have a dance background, should I start in beginner?
Yes, unless you are already an experienced hip hop dancer. There are a lot of important fundamental skills that are unique to hip hop dancing that you won't learn from other dance styles. Having a dance background is definitely a huge plus as you will probably progress quicker but that doesn't mean you should skip ahead until you have a good foundation in hip hop.

I have two left feet not sure if this is for me?
Sorry no excuses. Many great dancers started with two left feet and have gone on to win dance competition. True, some people take longer to improve, but everyone can eventually learn to dance. Like any other skill, it takes dedication to learn proficiency but the road to becoming a great hip hop dancer is also one filled with a lot of fun.

Private lessons vs group lessons?
Group lessons are a fun, social, and affordable way to learn. Students who take group classes on a regular basis form friendships with the other dancers. Persistence is important during the first couple weeks. You may find it a bit difficult to keep up just because it will take some time for your mind and body to adjust to the format of a group dance class. Keep in mind group classes are a one size fits all solution. The instructor has to teach at a pace that accommodates everyone not just you. If you want that kind of personalized instruction then consider private lessons. One on one sessions will prevent you from picking up bad habits. Small things like bad posture or an incorrect movement may take a very long time to unlearn once they become internalized. A good instructor will keep you on the right path and weed out potential bad habits at first sight. You'll get more into the details and subtleties and receive feedback specific to your needs. There is no doubt that students who take private lessons become more refined dancers.

What are your refund policies?
We will give a full refund in the unlikely event that a class is canceled. There are no refunds if you prepay for a class and don't ever show up to redeem it. You have up until 2 weeks from the payment date to redeem pre-paid classes. For example, if you prepay for a class on Monday and you can't make the class, you can still come the following week and redeem the class you paid for.

Do the punch cards expire?
Nope. The classes on your punchcards have no expiration date. We will still accept any remaining classes on your punchcards even a year from now.

What about lost or stolen punch cards?
If you lose your punch card due to personal negligence then we have no obligation to replace it. If it is stolen or lost due to circumstances outside of your control then we will replace it and credit you with the number of classes remaining onto a new punch card.

HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR DANCE CLASSES

1. Show up to class on time. It becomes very difficult to catch up with the rest of the class even if you come just 15 minutes late.

2. Come to class consistently. Don't let two or three weeks go by between classes. Make your dance class a part of your weekly routine and you will quickly see improvement.

3. Pay close attention to your instructor. Don't mess around while the teacher is giving instruction. Keep your cell phone off because if you walk out to take a phone call, by the time you walk back in, you may find yourself playing a very difficult game of catch-up.

4. Keep yourself hydrated. Make sure you come into class with some fluids in your system and a bottle of water.

5. Practice on your own. Go out to the clubs and try out the moves you have learned. Practice and application are essential to internalizing the steps.

6. Don't hide in the back. You want to be in the front as close to the instructor as possible. Ask the instructor questions before and after class. Pick their brain! It will help you get the most out of every class.
